Privacy Policy

Trackside Stays ("we," "us") runs tracksidestays.com, a free directory of caboose motels, train-car rooms, depot hotels, and trackside places to stay, plus the Trackside Dispatch newsletter. This page explains what we collect and what we do with it.
What we collect
- Newsletter signups. If you subscribe, we collect your email address. Signups are handled by our newsletter provider, beehiiv, which may track email opens and clicks.
- Submit a stay form. If you send us a stay, we collect what you type in the form (property name, location, website, notes, room tips) and your email if you choose to give it. Submissions are handled by our form provider, Web3Forms, and sent to our inbox.
- Emails you send us. If you write to [email protected], we receive your email address and message.
- Basic usage data. Our newsletter signup uses a beehiiv script that may set cookies and record things like the page you signed up from and how you arrived (for example, a referring link). Our web host, Cloudflare, also processes standard technical data.
How we use it
- To send the newsletter you signed up for.
- To review, verify, and publish stays people submit, and to follow up with you about your submission (and, if you told us you own or manage the property, about your listing and optional featured listings) if you gave us your email.
- To answer messages and keep the site running, secure, and improving.
We never sell your personal information.
Who else handles it
We use a few service providers to run the site. They process data for us under their own privacy policies:
- beehiiv (newsletter): beehiiv privacy policy
- Web3Forms (submission form): Web3Forms privacy policy
- Cloudflare (hosting and security): Cloudflare privacy policy
If we add affiliate booking links (for example, to Expedia or Booking.com), clicking one takes you to that company's site, and they or their affiliate network may set their own cookies to track the booking. Their privacy policies apply there.
We may also share information if required by law, or to protect our rights or the safety of others.
Your choices
- Unsubscribe anytime using the link at the bottom of every newsletter.
- Delete your info. Email [email protected] and we'll delete your email and any submission details we hold (published property information, like a listing's name and address, may stay on the site because it describes the property, not you), except where we need to keep something for legal reasons.
- Cookies. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site works without them, though the signup form may not.
- Do Not Track. Our site doesn't currently respond to browser Do Not Track signals.
Children
Trackside Stays isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you think a child has sent us information, email us and we'll delete it.
Changes
We may update or change this policy at any time without notice. Please check this page from time to time for the latest version.
